NYCN ANAMBRA LEADERSHIP: Stakeholders Dismiss Alleged Tribunal Verdict, Insist IKC Onuorah Won with 75 Votes
FACT CHECK: No Tribunal Nullified NYCN Anambra Election, IKC Onuorah Remains Duly Elected Chairman
The attention of stakeholders in the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, has been drawn to a publication claiming that an Election Petition Committee nullified the outcome of the June 26, 2026 State Congress and declared Barr. Nonso Henry Nwaebili as the duly elected State Chairman.
Stakeholders have described the publication as false, misleading and a deliberate attempt to distort the true outcome of the election.
According to the official results declared at the conclusion of the congress held on June 26, 2026, Comrade Ikechukwu (IKC) Onuorah emerged victorious after polling 75 votes, defeating Barr. Nonso Henry Nwaebili, who scored 62 votes.
They maintained that the election was conducted in line with the approved guidelines, with delegates exercising their franchise freely, after which the Electoral Committee declared IKC Onuorah the winner.
Contrary to claims contained in the publication, stakeholders insist that no constitutionally recognized Election Petition Tribunal or Committee was ever constituted to entertain any petition or invalidate the outcome of the congress.
They therefore questioned the legitimacy of the purported judgment and the alleged Certificate of Return reportedly issued to Barr. Nonso Henry Nwaebili.
Stakeholders posed the following questions to the promoters of the publication:
- Who constituted the alleged tribunal?
- Under which provision of the NYCN Constitution was the tribunal established?
- Who authorized the issuance of the purported Certificate of Return?
- Which recognized organ of the NYCN approved or ratified its decisions?
The Chairman of the Congress Planning Committee (CPC), Engr. Maduegbuna John, reaffirmed that the June 26 election produced a clear winner and that no lawful process has overturned the result.
Similarly, the Chairperson of the Electoral Committee (ELECO), Commander Nkem Amene, maintained that the election was free, fair and credible, emphasizing that the official declaration remains valid.
Stakeholders further alleged that the purported Certificate of Return circulating on social media did not emanate from the duly constituted electoral authorities and called on relevant authorities to investigate its origin and those responsible for its production.
They urged members of the NYCN, youth organizations, government agencies and the general public to disregard any publication or announcement suggesting a change in the leadership of the NYCN Anambra State Chapter unless it is communicated through the constitutionally recognized organs of the council.
They reiterated that Comrade IKC Onuorah remains the duly elected Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, having secured 75 votes against 62 votes scored by Barr. Nonso Henry Nwaebili at the June 26, 2026 State Congress.
